Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician position provides assistance to Case Managers, Therapists, Counselors, Admissions and any other department as needed. The Recovery Technician provides ongoing support to clients aligning with the goal of living a substance-free life. Decision-making is primarily technical with established policies, procedures and standards providing the basis for compliance decisions. Problems range from simple to complex. Research, consultation with others, and developing solutions is an expected and routine part of the work. There is significant interaction with a variety of others in situations that require sensitivity, flexibility, and the ability to influence others.
Position Accountability
- This position requires excellent listening skills with a solid understanding of what it takes to treat or manage substance abuse disorders.
- Consulting with the team, and providing research on techniques to defuse situations, and feedback to develop solutions is a routine part of the job functions.
- Follows and makes decisions to resolve problems in compliance with the established company policies and procedures. Problems range from simple to complex.
Duties
- Aid residents requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems.
- Formulate program for treatment and rehabilitation of client, using knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse problems and counseling and treatment techniques.
- Advise clients individually and in group sessions to assist in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency.
- Closely observe and physically check each client receiving detoxification services at least every 30 minutes during the first 72 hours following admission. Physical checks must be face-to-face.
- Observe all detox and residential clients by conducting headcounts and safety monitoring.
- Monitor clients’ medication and maintain logs documenting processes.
- Adhere to medication policies and procedures.
- Prepare daily reports.
- Deliver assigned educational module groups and oversee structured activities.
- Perform administrative duties such as filing, copying, answering phones, etc.
- Maintain shift communication logs.
- Assist with and participate in all regularly scheduled social recovery activities and services occurring during an assigned shift.
- Attend and participate in mandated staff meetings and scheduled team meetings and trainings as required.
- Assist with the coordination of maintaining the program food and supply needs as needed.
- Provide support in a professional, courteous, confidential, and timely manner to other employees or any other individual requiring assistance related to the essential functions of this position.
- Maintain the confidentiality of residents, employees, and the organization.
- Maintain professional relationships and observe the appropriate boundaries and limits with clients.
- Maintain appropriate attendance record.
- Understanding of ACA procedures and interventions used in keeping clients engaged in treatment.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Level I
- 1 year experience in recovery field
- Customer service and communication skills
- Ability to diffuse and deescalate situations
- Registered with CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP
Salary Range: $17 to $21
Level II
- 2 years’ experience working in the substance abuse treatment field.
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to diffuse and deescalate situations
- Registration maintained with CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP.
- Enrolled in college to attain AOD Certification
Salary Range: $20 to $24
Level III
- 2 years’ experience as a Behavioral Health Technician
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to diffuse and deescalate situations
- Certified with CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP.
Salary Range: $23 to $27
Education/Certification Level
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Driver’s License
- CPR and First Aid Certification
Preferred
- Enrolled in college to attain AOD Certification.
Experience
Required:
- 1 year recovery experience
Preferred:
- 2 years' work experience working in the substance abuse treatment field
- 2 years' work experience as a Behavioral Health Technician
